There are many festivals throughout the year including Scottish nights, classic car rallies, historic walks, a medieval fayre, a jazz festival and a spectacular tattoo. Close to the Galloway Hills and on the estuary of the River Dee. Local outdoor pursuits include fishing, horse riding in Galloway Forest Park, cycling and golf. Threave Garden and Estate (National Trust for Scotland) is a popular visitors attraction.
